22, 23 March At Sea

The 22nd was a quiet day in the Arabian Sea. Dinner was formal. Got a bit of rest. For entertainment tonight we enjoyed a 1 hour performance of highlights of La Traviata by a group from London.

The 23rd was much of the same. A fine sea day in the Arabian Sea. No shipping that I can see on the starboard side and I can't see land. There is a private party in the room where I get my navigational data so I am guessing from the moving tv map that we are running about 25km off the Iranian coast.
At lunch time we reported to the Pinnacle for an “Amuse” lunch and social time, compliments of the Captain and the Hotel Manager. Two tables of breads, cheeses, fruit, desserts, and canapes, oysters, shrimp, caviar and many other delights were offered along with wine, beer and water.

At 1730 I see buildings in the haze and realize I am looking at Iran. We have come 923nm from Mumbai and have 223nm to Dubai. Getting dressed for dinner had a surreal effect: I am standing in my stateroom looking out at the hills of Iran while buttoning up a Thai shirt, and readying my Hong Kong coat to do to an Indian dinner on a Dutch ship. We will soon round the horn of the UAE passing through the narrowest part 'tween Iran and the UAE, the Straits of Hormuz.

Dinner tonight in the Pinnacle was Indian style. The food was prepared by Daas, our Indian chef and the staff were dressed in Indian garb. Another outstanding dinner at the Pinnacle.
