A sunny morning with haze. A sand storm has clouded the air a bit so we can barely see the skyline this morning. At 1000 we slipped off the pier, sounding the horn 3 blasts. Our departure was acknowledged by the horn from the Seaborn ship Sojurn at the pier. (Seaborn is owned by Carnival which also owns Holland America.) There was a lot of honking and waving going on.
We left the cruise ship harbor with no problems and headed out into the Persian Gulf keeping land to starboard. For the afternoon we could see shipping all the time and occasionally fishing boats and even a dhow under sail. Through the haze the coast of Oman appeared; light brown cliffs and hills. A small village could be seen on a hillside and an old fort of brown stone stood alone. At 1645 we passed the eastern most cape of Oman and began our slow turn to the SW. The Straits of Hormuz were busy today but not the heavy traffic one may imagine. I have not seen a warship at sea yet, though I know they are out there.
Dinner tonight at the La Fontaine dining room. After 2 days of rich food it is time to get back to more healthy diet of ship's fare. Lamb Loin Wellington sounds good.
