Day 4 January 8

at Sea

An easy day at sea. Craig took a 2 mile walk around the promenade deck and Julie rested then breakfasted on deck. The crew had a fire drill in the morning which provided a moment of diversion for the rest of us. We worked on arranging our next sea adventure then attended the Cruise Critics get together up topside. Lunch in the main dining room with friends met on the 08 Grand Pacific Cruise and then follow up arrangements for the next adventure. Returning to our cabin we found the deck had been washed with fresh water during our absence.
The time change last night didn't bother us as we had nothing planned for this morning. There are activities if you wish to fill us your day; mixed overshoe matching at 9, finger painting with Stripe Toothpaste at 10, wheelchair parade at 11, electric scooter drags at noon and so on.
Tonight's dress code is formal and we began dressing at 6 for our 8:00 dinner. When we stopped in the Neptune Lounge (deck 7 guests) Mitzi Gaynor came in to look around. We had a chance to visit for a bit and found her charming and witty. When she found we were from Minnesota and her husband was from Minnesota as well, we lapsed into talking Minnesotan. (Oh, ya, don’t cha know, yah.) Her performance this night was great; she can still sing, dance and entertain. What a career.
The dining room crew had decorated with flags and in that international atmosphere served us caviar, escargot and lobster. Okay, there were other things on the menu but our indulgence tonight was for the specials.
We are heading for....Costa Rica. I feel we just left there. We did!

NOTE: On January 10th watch the Amsterdam pass through the Panama Canal. I'll wave to you.
Go to www.pancanal.com and watch us pass through the Gatun Lock at about 6:30am and the Miraflores Lock at about 2:30pm.
